Vanodine in a Nutshell |
DESCRIPTION VANODINE V.18 is an iodophor for
use with all types of livestock and domestic pets. VANODINE V.18 has a unique biocidal action which kills bacteria, fungi
and viruses which cause major diseases, without having to be used at a dangerously strong dilution rate.
BENEFITS AND FEATURES * Works against at least 60
different pathogens * Sanitizes
drinking water systems * Biocide kills bacteria, viruses
and fungi * Color coded to indicate activity * May
be used for aerial disinfection * Biodegradable, stable and safe in use * Cleans and disinfects in one operation
* Non-toxic, minimal to no
skin irritation * EPA registered *
Unique iodophor formulation
How to Use V.18 and FAM are in concentrate. 1/2 oz makes 1-15 gallons depending on
use. |
What is Vanodine / FAM?
Vanodine (V.18) is an Iodophor, specially formulated and stabilized for use with all types of livestock and domestic
pets. It is effective against kennel cough, tuberculosis, bordatella and many other pathogens. FAM is a stronger version of Vanodine. It is effective against bacteria which cause equine 'strangles', bovine 'mastitis', fowl
'cholera' and many other diseases. Click here to see a very detailed information sheet on the benefits of FAM.
Vanodine (V.18) should be regarded as a biocide. This is because a biocide inactivates all
types of organisms. Viruses, bacteria and even fungi. Whereas most disinfectants do not do this, as they are selective
in what they kill. Very few, for example, are effective against the polio virus, the tuberculosis bacterium, or many of theantibiotic
resistant organisms. Vanodine will also kill fungi, without having to be used at a dangerouslystrong dilution rate, as is
the case with
the few corrosive types of disinfectant that are effective against fungi. Another major benefit is that Vanodine (V.18) can
be used to keep down bacteria in the presence of livestock.
As more and more intensive methods of animal husbandry are practiced, the risks of keeping livestock increase and it is
in these crowded environments that new methods of disinfection are necessary to help prevent the spread of infection.
What are some of the Uses for Vanodine (V18)?
Vanodine (V.18) can be used to kill bacteria, viruses and fungi which cause the following diseases: - Arthritis, Aspergillosis,
Chronic Respiratory Disease, Epidemic Tremor, Erysipelas, Favus, Fowl Cholera, Fowl Pox, Fowl Typhoid, Infectious Bronchitis,
Infectious Laryngotracheitis, Infectious Sinusitis, Infectious Synovitis, Mycosis and Newcastle Disease.
V.18 is also most useful to breeders of Rabbits, Cavies, Chinchillas, Mice etc., as it helps to prevent
respiratory diseases, (including "Snuffles") Salmonellosis and many forms of Enteritis, for example: -
Bird Breeders suffer from "dead in shell" and "mushy chick", where the youngsters fail to break out their shells. Washing
eggs in a Vanodine (V.18) solution destroys the Staphylococci which causes "mushy chick'. V.18 has also been proved useful
in controlling the spread of Salmonellosis, Paratyphoid and respiratory diseases among birds.
Infection can be spread from a diseased animal to a healthy one in a vast number of ways. Direct contact is the most obvious,
but by no means the most common method of transmission. Human beings can convey infective material on their boots, hands and
clothing. It can also come in on the feet of animals, on equipment, food containers and on the wheels of vehicles.
With so many possible sources of disease, it is imperative that a strict code of hygiene ( or Biosecurity ) is implemented,
but even where all the basic principles of hygiene are practiced, bacteria populations will build up whilst livestock are
in housing. In order to keep mortality rates to a minimum, it is therefore essential that this build up of bacteria be kept
as low as possible and this is where V.18 can be a great help.
Note: in reference to water sanitation, Vanodine can be added to the water in watering systems in order to reduce the number
of harmful bacteria in the water. At the dilution used for drinking, it would be effective against some - but not all - microorganisms.
It is not intended to kill disease within the animal only to kill pathogens in the water which can be a source of infection
for the livestock. Watering systems still need to be regularly cleaned and disinfected to prevent disease transmission from
one cage to the next. Organic matter (dirt) can render it ineffective at low concentrations, so do not rely on the small amount
floating round the system to keep it completely clear of infection.

faster than either carbolic or quaternary compounds.
